J&D Distilling Building in Springfield

Back in August 2022, shock waves ripped through the Bourbon industry with the news that Maker's Maker Master Distiller, Denny Potter, and Master of Maturation, Jane Bowie, were departing the iconic red wax Bourbon makers.

Jane and Denny says that there next move....drum roll....their very own distillery in Washington County, Kentucky!

"It's a big day for us because it's been a lot of baby steps," Jane Bowie said. She and Potter are majority owners in the project and plan to start building a team soon. "We're going to make what we know and love, bourbon primarily," Bowie said. "The American whiskey landscape is fascinating right now. We hope to be inspired by the local farmers. We have a strong opinion on the kind of whiskeys we want to make and we are going to build a distillery to make those. We're going to do what we do best." She said they are still working on a name and other details.

Limestone Branch Distillery™ Makes Significant Investments and Improvements

Limestone Branch Distillery team made a host of facility improvements. These updates include back-of-house and visitor-area enhancements.

To increase production capacity, Limestone Branch Distillery installed a new cooker and a 1,000-gallon pot still, both created by Vendome, a local Louisville company known for making state-of-the-art stills. Added two new wine tanks and six new fermenters.
Grain-delivery systems were improved, and piping for water and steam was replaced. To enhance the production of Bowling & Burch Gin, staff installed a new, 66-gallon gin still made by Frilli, a renowned, century-old Italian company. The existing Trident Pot Still has been repurposed as a finishing still. The operational results of such an investment are impressive.

The distillery now can cook 3,000 gallons of mash per day – a 280% increase over its previous capacity. In terms of output, this translates into the ability to produce seven barrels per day or 200 per month, up from one-to-two barrels per day.
